Day 2 – #12beersofxmas
Brewery – Tickety Brew
Location – Stalybridge, Greater Manchester (historically Cheshire)
The Drink: Smoked Porter
ABV: 5.1% – 330ml
That is a bad picture, fancy not getting the head on it, sorry.
This was one of 48 bottles in their TicketyFew range – hence the label. It was made with Bamberg Rauchmalt.
Pouring a dark brown, no sediment, with a creamy-yellowish head, it was mildly carbonated but had a light mouth feel. Quite a bitter kick to it accompanied by a light smokiness which while not over-powering was, for me the dominant flavour. This was odd because it smelt a lot less of smoke than it tasted, the aroma being more of a more fully rounded coffee scent.
Had quite a fair bit of TicketyBrew beers at my recent works do. Having dragged everyone willing and able over to The Molly House on Canal Street in Manchester’s gay district, amongst the local brewers they were serving, they had both TicketyBrew’s Stout and the Rose Wheat Beer. If you have the time and the inclination I’d recommend both beers, the Stout made up one of my 12 beers of Xmas Day in 2013 but I especially fluff up the Rose Wheat as a conversion aid to those not up to speed with micro-brewers and to those that like beer in general. I’d definitely recommend the Molly House, it sticks out like a sore thumb in an area surround by the usual banal drink serving outlets. Now if only I could get used to unisex toilets.
Obviously Day 3 is next…
